Working with SCORM packages

Assembling your content for use

If you use a learning management system, such as BlackBoard, Moodle or Janison, it is a good idea to package your learning resources into a SCORM package before uploading them. The SCORM package tells the Learning Management System how to handle the files and the navigation relationships that exist between the files.

There are several ways of creating a SCORM package.

Wimba Create

Wimba Create is a program that can convert Microsoft Word document to Web Pages. It has been described in the section on Assemble it. Wimba Create will also export the content you have converted from Word directly into a SCORM package if the appropriate option is selected in the settings.

Reload Editor

You can use a SCORM packaging application such as Reload Editor to build a SCORM learning object. To use Reload you need all your resources collected together in a folder. Once you have opened Reload Editor, you locate the folder containing the resources you want to convert to a SCORM package. The navigation structure of the package is established by adding the web page files to the Organisation item in Reload. You can also add metadata to the package. This will help if the package is to be shared with other people. The final step is to save the package in Reload. This converts it into a SCORM package ready to be uploaded into your learning management system.
