Provide support

Providing rich interaction and communication

In this section we've included e-learning strategies for assisting learners individually and as a group during a course. This process is often called building an online learning community, and is a key part of effective e-learning design.

Support tools

E-learning tools for supporting learners include virtual classrooms, online discussion forums, bulletin boards (or announcements), real-time chats (in text), teleconferences and audioconferences, email, mobile phones, SMS, weblogs and online voice technologies. Learning management systems (LMS) usually include some of these.
For detailed examples of how support strategies are used in e-learning, see the Sample designs in the Learning Design section.
